here and there
it has been a busy week.
what's worst, i think i drank a bottle of goats' milk probiotic yoghurt which was left at room temperature slightly longer than it should. a real sensitive tummy. vomited a few times yesterday and still feeling like a jello today. despite the extensive vomiting experience during chemo.. it still doesn't come easy x_X
the cancertreatment bits
anyway, a friend brought me to this Naturopathy Therapy Centre whereby the centre has some kind of connection or liason with hospital in China claiming a revolutionary Cancer Treatment Protocols. they offer what they call targeted cancer therapies i.e. instead of overall body chemo that kills both the bad and good cells, the therapy is to injure and get rid of the tumour only. thus limiting the side effects of normal chemo.
MOM (minutes of meeting) with the doc:
lisa: in April 07, i was diagnosed with bla bla bla..... and it came back again this year bla bla bla... and of course, they want me to go back on chemo.. bla bla bla.. but i'm reluctant and hence, here i am... bla bla bla
doc: *reviewing my PET scan and report* you do know that they can't save you right? they can only extend your life ....
lisa: *smile* i know. i'm perfectly clear on that.. that's also one of the reason why i refused treatment.
doc: when did you find out again? Feb? are you on medication? what have you been doing?
lisa: yes. in fact, it came back earlier but i only found out in Feb. nope. i'm not on any medication. i'm on organic whole food, phythochemical smoothie, qigong.. the holistic stuff..that's it. nothing much really.
*doc looked up at me..smiled and said,
doc: more than 6 months now..and you are still here.. looking that good.. you should just continue doing what you are doing.
ha! so unexpected but i love that response!!! i have 7 witnesses who heard that :P haha.
btw he is a nice doc, kind, considerate, gentle to your soul and i don't said that because he complimented i look good k ? :P i like him because he is not the kind who thinks you should listen to them just becoz they think they know more than you. in fact, he is so interested in what i'm doing to stay alive.
*i need to say this quietly here coz i so wish it's not true : actually i don't feel as good as i look most of the time...... but i'm working on it :) and i do look beaten up alot of the time... like right now. still nausea*
but of course, being attached to the center, he has to offer the recommended therapy to me somehow.
well, to start off. i'm not a very obedient patient. i don't do as told. don't believe me, ask my onco. you can lecture me with all your expertise but i will make my own decision. just because i'm in a situation, i don't jump on every single offer to save my life. i'm not that desperate.
in this case, i'm not convinced. if it's such a breakthrough, why is it not implemented by the medical industry worldwide? i personally don't think by just getting rid of the tumour will help. i'm at advanced stage. my lymph nodes are affected. cancer cells could be anywhere. PET scan can only pick up tumour bigger than 0.5cm. the theraphy maybe able to get rid of the tumour with a clean PET scan. however, what you can't see doesn't mean it's not there. whatever not pick up by scan will grow and come back to haunt you.
if i want chemo, i want it thorough.. flood my whole body with poison. no mercy. leave no trace. but then i was also told, chemo can't get rid of tumour, they can only shrink it temporary. *sigh*.
for the time being, i'm sticking to his first advice..continue doing what i'm doing and hopefully, i can hang on for a long long time..

bedtime stories scene 2
tonite read: This Makes Me Mad! by Steven Kroll.
it's cool that the kids can identify and relate to many if not all the raging acts of a little girl called Nina and acknowledge that such temper is not cool.. although it has not stop them from behaving in that manner :P
sometimes we read together..
but tonight i'm a wee bit tired and falling asleep half the time..
fortunately, Matt is totally fine on its own :)
good nite all. have a good sunday.

my bedtime story
Matt: "mummy, can i read you a bedtime story?"
mom: "sure baby."
matt propped himself up against a pillow on bed next to me.. holding the book 'The Cat in the Hat' by Dr. Seuss. i rested my head on his tiny shoulder and my eyes followed his finger pointing as he read word by word.. sentence by sentence.. turning page after page. right till the end.
a quiet moment shared with my boy. a memory to cherish.
7 years is just not enough...

anti-oxidant, come lie down with me..
it occur to me that nowadays people are more health conscious. even if not, they are 'look' conscious. many of the ladies of today, even men try to stay young, active and trendy (me inclusive). these ladies are obviously there for firstly, beauty and secondly health. can you blame them? be honest, we all want the same thing. i'm there for the same reasons too but of course in a different order, firstly health and then secondly, beauty.
what is this anti-oxidant (AOX) thingy that i brag about?
it's not anti-oxygen but anti-oxidant as in oxidation. from here on, i'm extracting from their brochures (you can skip if you're not interested).
few are aware that the oxygen that sustains life is simultaneously destroying it. those who have experienced trouble with rust are aware of the harm oxidization causes. the same process is occuring in our bodies with every breath we take. aging or premature aging is a process f oxidation within the body.
basically, the process of oxidization releases free radicals. these free radicals are present in our environment and are also produced in our bodies through the ingestion and metabolism of food. pollution, tobacco smoke, stressful lifestyles and unhealthy diests aggravate the natural tendency to form free radicals.
it is widely held that by neutralizing these free radicals and repairing damaged cells, AOX can boost the immune system, prevent disease and slow down the aging process. this is bececause the AOXs inhibit the oxidization process. common AOX include vit A, C and E, beta-carotene and lycopene, found in brightly coloured fruit and vegetables. However, today's use of pesticides and fertilizers, combined with inadequate diest, our intake of AOX might be insufficient.
so, this AOX rejuvenation center i goes to (almost everyday) is kinda to help infuse my body with AOX. how does it work? well, i dowan to get into the details of the techniques (you can grab a brochure at the center and read on it) but basically what we do is, we go there.. change into their yukata.. lie down on the floor in a heated room with low humidity (around 44-45 degrees).... where the room is filled with AOXs, a substance that has high Oxidation Reduction Potential for 40 minutes.. and then cool down.. take a shower and done.
it's 100% natural. you sweat bucket, it helps remove body toxins and wastes, strengthen immune systems, improve metabolism, promote blood circulation, improve skin condition and complexion, even those with serious eczema cases, restore youthfulness, reduce sign of aging etc..
what i feel after each session?
FRESH! SOFT! and PINKISH! even on my lousiest day, i can emerge from the center feeling good. i feel so good and refresh at times..so much so that i can't help but took a pic.. when there is no one around la.. :P :P
the first 2 pics were taken in May 09 and the last two pics were taken this month, Aug 09. i was at the dressing area... about to blow my hair. yes, 3 out of 4 pics, i haven't even comb my hair :P ... funny that, my hair length all look the same even though it's 3 months apart.
>
can't see the pinkish complexion ah? damn, i need to bring my dSLR next time :P
but trust me, i can walk in the center as green as the hulk or as pale as ghost but walk out definitely coated in pink.. and it's not blusher, k? ;)
it's also good for those who has high blood pressure and those who never exercise and need to lose some weights. not only ladies, men too.
ooppss... my mom called. i'm late, gotta go. obviously, i'm back to my usual self again :)
~till next time

sorry, i'm cranky.
i'm not exactly looking forward to getting up from bed nowadays.
i'm weary of the same daily routine.. exercise. qigong. meditation. anti-oxidant...blah blah.
i'm physically exhausted but my mind is idle.
i'm so bored with the restrictive organic food section of the supermarket.
i'm tired of grains,veges, tofu.
i want bangers, bacons, frittatas.. anything but smoothie for breakfast.
i so wanna tantilate my tastebuds with a nicely brewed coffee.
i'm so in need of sugar supply... be it natural or artificial.
i ate so much and yet i'm hungry all the time.
i miss work.. i even miss con-calls.
... on and on.. and on ... and on..
okay.okay. enough. enough already.
now that i have it out, i feel like i wanna slap myself in the face instead.
so whiny....
to myself: "eat a mangosteen and get over it, will ya?"
(i just bought some non-organic mangosteen cause i feel like having it and i don't care.. at least not tonight)
i'm sure it just a phase. can't let that bad mood linger tho'.
otherwise, it may turn to depression. surely can't afford that.
so, i'm just gonna eat my mangosteen now..
re-boot the system.. re-store the spirit.. re-connect the mind.. and start over again.
on a different note,
*muacksssssssssssssssssss* to the blogger gang. thank you so much for the scrapbook etc magazine.
since i'm so cranky.. it's about time i should indulge in an old hobby again.. excellent idea :) love ya all!

Mdm Irene
i have the urge to call her this morning. so, i did. she sounds her usual self. cheerful. upbeat.
she has been struggling with cancer since 2003. on and off chemo. she battles all with a smile. sadly, they have given up on her recently. they said there is nothing much they can do now.
currently her daughter is back from Brisbane to visit her. so, we made arrangement to meet up next week instead. i'm looking forward.
two people given only months to live. probably you can't tell when you hear our laughter and see our smiles :) God Bless Her.

steady now
"lisa, as compared to 6 months ago, how are you feeling today?"
such a valid question. about 6 months ago, i was told i had only 6-8 months to live. oh gosh, time flies...... my time is up edi !??? ... no no no not yet... not so soon... i forbid it.
"hello hello .. i'm still alive... alive!!!"
*jumping up and down .. clapping my hands and running in circle
hysterically*
unfortunately, that's not the response i gave him. in fact, i answered in a murmur,
"weaker... "
that was almost two weeks ago. given the time to ponder on it now. i was doing fine until July and the two attacks really knocked me out. it drained me off. shed my fats. and it takes alot of energy to recover. i was weaker..easily tired..easily breathless.. pale.. skinny..
the good news is i'm feeling so much better now. i'm getting stronger and my colour is coming back (or either this SK II is really such a miracle water :P). i don't know and don't care what will happen next. it has given me the taste of just a fraction of what is yet to come but i'm not gonna worry about it now. if i'm feeling good today, i'm making full use of it. replenish my energy.. eat more.. rest well.. get this body up and ready again.
so, i'm steady..

the pineapples
as i am drinking .. chewing .. my smoothie right at this moment, i want to share with you this piece of information.
with reference to the smoothie formulas manual written by Jeff Primack & Qigong Family, the Pineapple Stem is God's Super-Potent Cancer Fighting Medicine.
as you may know, pineapple is very good for the skin. sometime i blend the pineapple wedges together (and i love it) but i can only eat that sparingly as pineapple is high in sugar content. this leave me with one problem, i need the pineapple white stem regulary but not the wedges. i hate to see things go to waste... i hope i will figure something out later.
note: thank you for getting me the book. it's the best book i ever had on cancer *hugs* :)
bunk bed fall
what is it with boys and bunk beds? i have 3 against one (yeah, including the big guy) and kinda always lose out in the forces of
anyway, the boys were playing in the room and we heard the sound of a fall.. followed by crying.. and then Matt pointing at Brad, "mummy, Brad fell off the bed"
as you can see, he is okay. thank God. nothing serious. fell onto his bum. but a lesson learnt, i hope. come to think of it, i used to fell from the trees.. the bicylces.. . the ladder.. all sorts when i was a kid but somehow i never learnt :P :P
instead of requesting for a back massage this two days, he will now ask,
"mummy, i love you. can you massage my bum please?"

i need to feel good about myself again..
i felt so beaten up recently (and have to resort to SK II now :P) and i do think i should pamper and doll myself up a little.
i can't remember when is the last time i used make-up foundation.. before chemo, two years ago??!! ha!
for the past few months, i'm always in track bottoms, short pants, flip flops, sandals, sneakers.... so predictable and boring!
i need to dress up a little...i need to wear enticing high heels.. i need to feel sexy and womanly again.

but then, where to? qigong? anti-oxidant? groceries shopping? gym? O.O
and with all the daily activities, i began to wonder whether keeping my hair long and washing it at least twice a day is practical. maybe i should just cut it short and neat for easy maintenance. i like the hairstyle in this pic ...
or maybe i should go for another round of twist-lock, the hungarian puli... just to spice things up...
maybe not. no time to take care..

the FeelGood factor
so, it's definitely worthwhile to do something that will make you feelgood inside for a healthier body.
this boy recently took the liking for a shoulder and back rub. mind you, he also loves to be cuddled, tickled and kissed all over but let's stick to the back rub for now. he will come to you with the sweetest voice asking,
"mummy, i love you. can you massage my back for me?"
with that, how can you resist? when you rub his back with lotion added with a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil, he will surely compliment it with,
"mmmmm....so nice mummy"
with that, a sure-fire way to bring a smile on my face .. and more than 100,000 feel good chemical reactions gushes over and around our bodies.
last night we went out for dinner at a vietnamese restaurant. I had a bowl of vegan vermicelli and couldn't hold back the resistance for a cup of vietnamese coffee. it has been so long.. too long.. longing for that real coffee aroma and taste. every sip made me wanna smile and wink ;) ... ahhhhh... so good.
besides winking, it also made me stay up whole night blinking at the ceiling. it has been so long..too long ..since i last consumed caffeine. the feelgood factor was sadly overriden by the drawback of caffeine :P
you know what i recenlty took a liking for? the brazilian wax.
love the clean, slick and smooth feel. i'm hooked and keep going back for more.
due for one now... and i'm so ready for another 100,000 squish squashing feelgood chemical reactions :)
pain? nahhhh... awkward? not if done by the pro...
i get my waxing done at strip-ministry of wax at the curve, a singapore based company- http://www.strip.com.sg/
you know what? besides the lack of sleep last night, i feel very normal today.

something about Matt's school
that's why we send Matt for tuition classes. for simpler stuff, sometimes we make use of BESTA, which is quite handy.
no, i don't think we are 'kiasu' parents. if anytime Matt is unhappy, we won't hesitate to stop his tuition or even pull him out of chinese school. but i do think it's okay for Matt to rough it out a little so long he is not unhappy.
there is this monument..pillar..slab.. not-sure-what-to-call it.. in the school compound that i don't remember seeing it 6 months ago.
not sure what's the purpose except that it does give a nice feel and scenery to the compound.
but then of course, we are talking about kids 7 years and above. the water is shallow.
it was a sunny saturday (few weeks back) and Matt's school sports day. Matt is not a sporty boy, so, he didn't really participate in any of the events but we hanged out a bit at his school.

half-full or half-empty?
however, it's a relief.
so, i guess it's a glass half-full for me :)
well, my marker reading is still going up but it's also slowing down in momentum a little. considering all the pain and if cancer has really grown in leaps and bounds causing the past weeks agony, i expected my marker reading could have easily gone up to 1,000 by now. so, it's a sigh of relief when my CEA marker turned out 428. moreover, for the first time, my CA 125 marker (which has been trending up month after month since Feb 09) dropped by 2 points.
although it's not exactly good news but let's move on. there is alot more to do.
actually i was more taken aback by my weight than the result. it hits all time low. i weigh 41.6kg, even lower than my record during chemo. no wonder i was told recently that i look frail.
i came home from qigong. took a pic..... stared at it and told myself, not really that bad what!
i'm surely enjoying the denial but the truth is, i am way too skinny. what you can't see is that my bras reduced more than a size down and can you believe i can wear xs undies. that's for adolescent, not for a two time mom! to add salt to wound, i have eye bags from sleepless night due to the pain plus the boys falling sick one after another. my skin is flaky and dry recovering from rashes. and i'm exhausted.
as said, there is alot more to do. now that the pain is gone. i need to get back up soon.. i need to regain my strength and put back on some weights. asap!
note: no lah, i don't wear like that for qigong. there is always another top layer.
